Welcome to OAKtober
OAKtober engages the imagination, expands knowledge, and empowers the environment starting where we live.
We build the community working for the ecological resilience of oaks and the oak savanna ecosystem in the peri-urban interface of the Pudding River watershed and beyond.
OAKtober celebrates oaks through an interactive citizen science project that creates a regional map of oaks and a
Large Oak Competition.
The results from Silverton's 2023 Large Oak Competition are in. Read about the Mark Twain Oak.
It's not too early to measure your oaks and get them entered.
Thanks for your interest in OAKtober.
OAKtober's mission:
We engage the imagination, expand knowledge, and empower the environment starting where people live. We build the community working for the ecological resilience of oaks and the oak savanna ecosystem in the peri-urban interface of the Pudding River watershed and beyond.
OAKtober needs your help. Get involved.
The trees in our urban forest provide their benefits - shade, habitat, pollution removal, slowed water runoff, carbon sequestration, improved cardiovascular and mental health - for all of us. OAKtober celebrates that contribution and gives back.
In 2023 the OAKtober celebration starts in Silverton with a competition to find our largest oaks. We encourage you to participate by nominating trees in your yard or neighborhood - get out and talk to your neighbors, make a group nomination of that works best for you. Details here.
During the year and especially in October there are opportunities to interact with other OAKeepers, make new friends and do good for Silverton's urban forest. Check out the Events page. Get involved.
