OAKtober program goals
OAKtober goals:
+ Create a regional map of oaks
+ Increase community awareness of oak ecosystems
+ Reduced risk to regional oak habitat
+ Improved oak habitat health
+ Increased preservation of oak habitats
+ Identify and prioritize oak habitat for regeneration
+ Deliver increased ecosystem-wide benefits to Silverton
Become an OAKeeper.
The trees in our urban forest provide their benefits - shade, habitat, pollution removal, slowed water runoff, carbon sequestration - for all of us. Oak ecosystems provide unique habitat for plants, animals, and humans. But this isn't understood by enough people. OAKeepers fill this void and help connect people with each other and with the oaks.
Because OAKtober is a new program in Silverton, we have the opportunity to mold it as best needed here. Your participation in developing service programs, educational events and materials, and even entertainment is needed now.
