Oaks in Silverton Presentation & Discussion

Silver Falls Library 410 S. Water St. Silverton.
Details: Eric Hammond, horticulturist, arborist, and oak expert will cover the cultural and ecological heritage we enjoy because of oaks in Silverton. We’ll discuss Kalapuyan land management prior to White settlement, and ecological change since, current state and things we can do to change the trajectory.

NE corner of the Mark Twain School, 425 N Church Steet, Silverton.
Details: Join us to learn about the cultural and ecological importance and legacy of oaks in Silverton and the Mark Twain champion tree, Silverton’s largest oak. We’ll contemplate this through the centuries this tree has grown and talk about caring for oaks into the future, drought, invasive species, and the legacy we leave.

How To Class: Oak Mapping & Biometric Data

Mark Twain School's lower oak grove next to the soccer field Across from 1071 Mill St Silverton.
Details: Learn how to measure a tree’s diameter, estimate its height and then participate as a citizen scientist and historian while mapping and recording the data of the oaks in the lower Mark Twain oak grove.
